GBP wins corporate excellence award from Enterprise Asia
Independent power producer Global Business Power Corporation (GBP) was recently bestowed the prestigious Corporate Excellence Award under the Mining/Energy Industry at the 2019 Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA).
Organized by Enterprise Asia, the APEA seeks to give recognition to outstanding business leaders and companies which democratize entrepreneurship, institutionalize sustainability, and empower innovation. In particular, the Corporate Excellence award is given to companies who have shown exemplary results in key audit areas, namely people management, value creation, business growth, continuous improvement, corporate social responsibility, and operation excellence.
“We take this award as a challenge to keep doing better as we realize our vision of becoming a total sustainable energy solutions provider,” said GBP President Jaime T. Azurin, citing GBP’s strong culture of excellence as a key driver for the company’s outstanding performance. “The core of GBP has always been our passion to serve, and we dedicate this win to the communities and the nation whose future we seek to transform and build,” Azurin added. GBP is the only awardee in the mining and energy category.
Since its inception in 2003, GBP has grown its capacity fourfold from 185.5 MW to 854 MW today. In 2008, the company readily responded to the government’s call for additional supply to augment power shortage in the Visayas by building the country’s first Circulating Fluidized Bed (FB) boiler plant in Toledo City, Cebu. The company soon built another CFB plant in Iloilo, the first baseload facility in Panay Island. Providing adequate, reliable, and cost-efficient power supply, GBP has helped transform the cities of Toledo and Iloilo into dynamic growth hubs.
GBP’s operations, meanwhile, have continued to gain recognition from various regulatory bodies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines (PCAPI). The company has also been recently recognized by HR Asia as one of the best companies to work for in the country and the region, owing to its robust people engagement initiatives and a strong culture of empowerment and teamwork. Enterprise Asia is a non-governmental organization in pursuit of entrepreneurship development across the region. Launched in 2007, the APEA has presence in over 14 markets across Asia and the Pacific. Nominees undergo an in-depth search and selection process followed by a quantitative and qualitative audit. #
