GBP donates computers to assist students in the ‘New Normal’
Global Business Power Corporation (GBP) recently donated computers and laptops to its adopted schools and scholars in Cebu and Iloilo, to help facilitate distance learning.
Through subsidiaries Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC), Toledo Power Co. (TPC) Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) and Panay Power Corporation (PPC), a total of 34 computer sets and laptops were provided by the power generation company for the benefit of senior high school and college scholars, and adopted schools while one desktop unit was given to the local law enforcement unit in Nabas, Aklan. Each computer set came with a monitor, CPU, keyboard, and mouse. Likewise, laptops provided were refurbished for optimal use.
“Now more than ever, Global Business Power is committed in helping our scholars, partner schools, and supported communities cope with the present challenges of distance learning,” said GBP President Jaime T. Azurin
GBP’s site representatives presented the computers and laptops to the scholars, parents, and school administrators in simple turnover ceremonies held within its plant facilities.
The donation is one of GBP’s initiatives in response to the Department of Education’s (DepEd) implementation of the flexible learning system, which combines both digital and non-digital technology, as opposed to traditional modes of teaching prior the COVID-19 pandemic.
Previously, students encountered difficulties in adjusting to online classes as they would rely on their mobile phones, having to multitask between attending online lectures and complying with school requirements.
“I am grateful to GBP for giving us these computers. I am now able to attend classes, work on my modules and assignments, and submit requirements on time because I now have my own desktop unit,” shared Keith Salada, a freshman at Cebu Normal University and one of GBP’s college scholars.
GBP, one of the leading power producers in the Visayas, Mindanao and Mindoro islands with a total gross capacity of 1,091 MW, is committed to raising the quality of life of the Filipino and fueling the economic development of the nation by providing efficient and competitive energy services.
