GBP wins environmental recognition
GLOBAL BUSINESS POWER CORPORATION (GBP), through its subsidiaries in Cebu and Panay, recently gained recognition from the Pollution Control Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PCAPI) for its continuous commitment to preserve the environment.
GBP’s Cebu subsidiaries Cebu Energy Development Corporation (CEDC) and Toledo Power Company (TPC) won the 2019 PCAPI Mother Nature Award and the Success Story Award for the Adopt-A-Water-Body Project. Under the project, GBP adopted a creek along Brgy. Luray and Brgy. Daanlungsod in Toledo City and facilitated its cleanup and maintenance. GBP also built a material recovery facility in the area for proper waste management.
Meanwhile, Panay subsidiary Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) placed 2nd runner up for the 2019 Mother Nature Award while receiving a Certificate of Recognition for the Success Story award on the GBP Panay Iloilo Eco-Park.
Mr. Eljan Javellana, GBP pollution control officer from PEDC, also won an award for being one of the country’s Top Outstanding Pollution Control Officers who, through their efforts, help minimize the effects of pollution as stewards of the environment.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to preserve the environment in line with our new vision to become a total sustainable energy solutions provider,” said Mr. Edwin De Jesus, GBP Environment, Safety, and Health (ESH) Head.
The PCAPI Annual Convention, held this year at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino, Cebu City, seeks to recognize best practices in environment management among members of the private sector. The Mother Nature Award recognizes organizations that are environmentally compliant and proactive, while the Success Story Award showcases projects that have made significant environmental contributions to a specific need.
PCAPI is a private, non-profit organization that acts as the support arm for pollution control of the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Global Business Power, through its subsidiaries, is a leading power producer in the Visayas region which operates 11 power generation facilities in Cebu, Iloilo, Aklan, and Mindoro. In 2017, the company acquired a 50% stake in Mindanao-based Alsons Thermal Energy Corporation.
