Training for Barangay Health Workers
Global Business Power Corporation (GBP), through its subsidiaries Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC) and Panay Power Corporation (PPC), recently hosted a learning session for Barangay Health Workers (BHW) in its partner communities at the GBP Institute for Energy. The training, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Family and Community Medicine of West Visayas State University-College of Medicine, focused on common respiratory diseases in the community as well as preparedness in responding to the dengue outbreak. The province of Iloilo has been placed under a state of calamity after a 259% increase in dengue cases from the previous year, with a total of 18,834 cases of the mosquito-borne disease recorded between January and July this year. The annual training for BHWs is one of the activities under GBP’s Adopt-a-Health Center program. Through the program, GBP enhances capability in the health centers through training and provision of basic medical equipment as well as a quarterly supply of basic medicines.
